The Byza Bae was the widow of the Maharajah of Gwalior. On his death in 1827, she assumed the sovereignty of his dominions, professedly as regent. This narrative deals with her struggles to retain her power against the intrigues of her adopted son. It discusses the attitude of the British government and Sleeman did not want it published until after his death. With the volume is correspondence between Charles Lesley Ames and Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co. relating to the 1954 purchase of the manuscript and permission given by Sir James Sleeman to Sir Francis Tucker to quote from it.
